About Us

Establishment of HD&D Product Design Consultancy in 1976

I came to Perth in 1976 and soon afterwards established Hooper Design and Development as a Product Design Consultancy to assist inventors and innovators in all aspects of their development needs, including commercialisation.

University Design Lecturing

While conducting my consultancy service, I was invited to lecture at the School of Design at Curtin University of Technology. I continued in this role on a part time basis intermittently over the next 20 years.

Employment at the W.A. Innovation Centre Pty. Ltd.

I subsequently became aware of the newly established W.A. Product Innovation Centre (located on the Curtin University campus) which had been formed with the support of the Confederation of Western Australian Industry, the Commonwealth and Western Australian Governments and the four tertiary institutions in Western Australia.

I saw this as an ideal opportunity to better assist inventors and accepted an invitation to join WAPIC as Design and Assessment Manager. I remained in that role when the Centre relocated to the newly opened Perth Technology Park soon afterwards and remained there until the Federal Government suspended funding to Innovation Centres around Australia, causing me to resume my consultancy service. In this role I handled countless local inventions, either through becoming involved in their development or through their commercialisation.
